Job Description Summary:

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Disability Support Services (DSS), Strategic Skills Services, this individual is responsible for coordinating career-related programs and services for students with disabilities. This would include activities such as: career planning and job search programs and activities; career coaching services and educational programs; individual appointments and group presentations and discussion; and assisting with employer development and recruitment activities. The Disability Career Specialist will also prepare GW students with disabilities to secure internship opportunities

Job Duties:

Provides career development and employment preparation programs for students with disabilities.

Counsels students in disability-related topics such as self-advocacy, disclosing a disability to prospective employers, and requesting accommodations.

Provides individual and group advisement to assist students in their academic exploration and career decision-making process. Targeted First year, Sophomore, Junior, Senior objectives

Prepares students with disabilities to participate in internship and employment programs that look to hire students with disabilities. Included in this would be Job Shadow Days, the Workforce Recruitment Program, COSD, and Entry Point.

Identifies prospective employers in the private sector and non-profit arena, as well as government agencies that are interested in hiring students with disabilities for internships and jobs.

Supports GW Career Services with employer relations and recruitment activities including promoting career fairs, networking events, information sessions, etc.

Participates in regularly scheduled meetings with the professional staff in the GW Career Center, including those managing employer relations, maintain a commitment to DSS Strategic Skills Services, and collaborate with other colleagues in Disability Support Services/ODI.

Collects data on all programs, meetings, events, developing and implementing an annual plan to provide career and academic activities for all students

Performs other duties as assigned such as research and develop knowledge of career development trends, markets and issues. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning tasks logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
