Work at Home Scammers on the Prowl

ABC24-CW30 in Memphis, TN reports on scammers are on the prowl. They report that the Better Business Bureau (BBB) says work at home scams are on the rise and that a company called "Unity Home Services" claims a person can work at home stuffing envelopes. Their flyer claims you can make up to $3,500.00 per week, but first they ask you to send in $47.00 for stamps and envelopes.

But after you send in the money, they send you a letter saying that you have to send out fliers to other people to get them to do the same thing; And they don't pay you.

There are also scams going around asking people to be secret shoppers. They send you a generic $4,000.00 check and then ask you to send them a $3,000.00 money order. Then the $4,000.00 check bounces when you try to cash it.(Source. Includes a video)

Okay, I don't understand the $4,000.00 shopper scam. I would think a person would try to cash the check before sending the $3,000.00. Perhaps they told her to not cash the check until the money order was sent. But then that should have raised red flags.

But I was a victim of the "send fliers" scam years ago. I lost about $20.00 or so. Yes, if it sounds to good to be true it usually is.

On the bright side, there still are LEGITIMATE work at home jobs out there. This website has many! Check out the Work From Home section!
