Amway - Home Business
Amway is one of the most famous and successful companies that makes use of direct selling and network marketing strategies to sell its numerous products; ranging from nutrition and health, beauty, jewelry and accessories, and home care products.
Two long-time school friends -- who previously ventured into several endeavors, founded the company. In 1949, Richard De Vos and Jay Van Andel had formed the Jay-Ri Corporation, a company that concentrated on importing products made from wood from the South Americas. In that same year, they happened to attend a Nutrilite business seminar, which really picked their interest. Nutrilite was a company that sold multivitamins through direct selling. Jay-Ri Corporation became a distributor for Nutrilite, and by 1958, it had successfully organized and recruited more than 5,000 distributors. Jay-Ri also formed an organization composed of other top Nutrilite distributors to search the market for other products. The organization was called The American Way Association.
Amway Corporation was formed in 1964, with Richard and Jay owning 50% of the company’s shares. Eventually, Amway bought out and took full control of Nutrilite. Today, Amway has established several holding and sister companies, has subsidiaries and distributors in over 80 countries, and more than 3 million Independent Business Owners (IBOs) worldwide.
For a company that has been in the business for more than five decades, and continues to prosper, many people are sure to wonder how it really works. Aside from offering exclusive products that are really effective and are of high quality, Amway offers incentives and bonuses not just from product sales but also from recruiting or sponsoring new distributors or IBOs, and from the sales, these IBOs eventually generate. They also give leadership bonuses monthly and annually for outstanding sales performance, as well as continuous business trainings and seminars.
Getting started as an IBO would entail registering and paying $62 for a Welcome Kit that details the business and its programs. For one to fully know the products, one can also avail of an Optional Product Kit ($89.99) that includes sample products, brochures, and tools to help one get better acquainted with the system. An IBO is also entitled to support and training every step of the way.
Amway believes in creating a better life not just for the end users but for its business partners. And therein probably lies the success of Amway.
